pittsfield-jew

The first post says it all Shalom, This is the home of the Pittsfield Jew. Sure its neat to read about Jews in Brooklyn who are very observant but how about a not so observant Jew who lives in the Mid West?

Israel Called

Yesterday Israel called. A family we know made aliya in the Fall. Their daughter and our daughter went to school together. They have been best friends ... something burning... back now. Recall the wife is out of town. So I let the machine get it.

Yesterday I read the first aliya from this week's parsha. Honor your father and mother. Fear your mother and father. Normally we honor our mother more so Torah has reversed it to even the score. Normally we fear our father more so Torah has reversed it to even the score. If you don't get what I'm saying ask. This is the most important part of this week's Torah.

I heard a word from Torah I recognized besides vamoer and the name of the parsha. They don't really count. Katzer. These words are hard to right in english. It means harvest and is used in the first aliya. Let the corners of your fields go unharvested so poor people can eat them. Next weekend when the family is back. They get back Thursday. I'll mow the lawn. I won't cut any corners though.

Tonights dinner, baked potatoe, brisket, hot dog and steamed brocoli.
