pittsfield-jew

The first post says it all Shalom, This is the home of the Pittsfield Jew. Sure its neat to read about Jews in Brooklyn who are very observant but how about a not so observant Jew who lives in the Mid West?

Back to Michigan

Welcome back to Michigan. The flu vaccine people just called me. I just spent the last 5 minutes talking to them. So here is what I forgot for today. Forgot my book The French Connection. Forgot tissues, my cold caused me to use them up. Forgot my cell phone charger. Hopefully Linda, my housesitter woke up this morning. She was still asleep around 8:45. I just barely made it here at 9:10 or 9:15. Linda is supposed to cook me dinner around 5:30 today. I am kinda mad at her since she convinced me its too wet to bike to work. Today is a grand opportunity something like in the 60s today. Later I plan to go to Wendy's I have $2 coupons. My parents bought me two button down shirts and a polo brand third button down shirt. We saw a band called the nighthawks at the state theater in Falls Church, VA. Also a play String Fever in the JCC in Washington DC. My cousin Melanie was picked up from her relatives house Saturday afternoon. We took her for a hike in Great Falls, MD. My parents took me to the museums on Friday. We cooked and ate on Thursday. My plane didn't get in until midnight approximately. So we missed all the parties. We made gefilte fish. We saw two of the movies I brought, Badge of Honor with Richard Drefys. Also Mad Dog and Glory with Bill Murray, Uma Thurmond and Robert DeNiro. Sunday we did a Volksmarch a hike around Arlington, VA. At the airport I called my wife, my brother and my Aunt Sylvia. My parents got us all sweatshirts from Bethany Beach, Del. Also we got a 5 quart Calphon and a quesadillo maker. The last time my mom got a finger waffle maker for us a year ago. I finished Ultimatum and left it with my parents to put at their beach house. I also left them the movie Justice For All which I saw last time I was there. We walked along the C & O canal and my dad and I planned a bike ride from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington DC. The trip would take 4 days. Last night Linda and I split a bottle of wine and played a fast game of scrabble.

Miserable

Once again I'm somewhat miserable. The're all gone. I am home all alone. Its hard to believe in less than 24 hours I'll be gone too. Soo much has to happen in 24 hours. Sleep, work. Also I'm feeling a bit under the weather so of course it makes everything seem much worse. The house sitter was here. Her name is Linda. Linda left me a not, she has let the dogs out and medicate all the pets. I've no idea when she'll be back nor do I care. Started on my Partnership Health project some more today. First we had a requirements document meeting. Next is a design document meeting. I'm almost ready, all I've got left to do is make a flow chart of the data. Of course the meeting is at 10:30. I've got to make copies, finish the document, eat breakfast, get coffeee and water and brush my teeth. Hopefully Linda can walk the dogs. I think we're paying her for today as well. Really hopefully she can ride me to the airport. Use of my car is a good enough tip. Its doubtful, she'll read this blog. If she has hi Linda. Poor Tom was sick today and had to go home. I toughed it out. I also want to go shopping in the morning, before work. I plan to go to Hiller's and get the fish fillets for my Father as we have discussed. We plan to make gelfilte fish. My greatest joy of a Jewish moment. His mother taught him how to make it and now he is passing it on the generations. I went to school and got my new text book.

Nothing to do

I have nothing to do at work. I finished all my assignments early. Tonight we are going to the JCC. Z is doing something with his class and I am filming it using Amy's camera. Then we have to give the camera to Valerie so she can film somthing after our film. S wants to go to a movie Saturday night. We might go to the dollar movies. My mother phoned me because she want to make sure I remember to bring my father's fishing pole carrier. I got it when I went to my cousin's wedding on September 18. Now I have it because my dad bought fishing poles for the girls. Z is supposed to get a fishing pole from Tom. Tom didn't come to work today and there was no email saying he would not be here. He wasn't here Thursday either so it was kinda lonely here. Since R finished her parsha she sat in silence on the way to school. Angry as usual at her mother for "ruining her life". My usual list of forgotten items: forgot my pills and forgot my book. The book is called Ultimatum. The pills are three: vitamin, calcium and magnesium. I had left over Chinese for lunch. Last night's class was about classes also known as object oriented programming. L has gymnastics, homework and religious school over the weekend. S also wants some steam cleaning to take place in the kids bedrooms. Spencer the cat appears to have sprayed in there. R has soccer practice and a soccer game.

the Christians are killing me

Hopefully this won't offend any Christians. This book Gates of Zion is not what I thought it was. I went to the library website www.aadl.org to look for the rest of the 5 book series. I started to get suspicious when I discovered the books were under teens. So I went to www.amazon.com and there I discovered the books are considered Christian Fiction. All I can say is yuck. Fortunately I was almost finished with the book. So I finished it and can't recommend it and won't read the rest of the series or the 4 book prequel. She is a great author and her husband is a great researcher. Buyer beware she is also good and writing a book to appeal to would be Christian converts. This is the way their faith works. This is how I see it. Meanwhile I am enjoying the book on tape The Day the Rabbi Walked Out. My coworker Melissa took the other book I put on the shelf The Day the Rabbi Resigned. I started another book. It was on my shelf a long time. I probably got it at a garage sale awhile ago. Ultimatum. Written in 1976 and about oil tankers. There is a party going on here. The party also include breakfast. It is a blast. I was one of the first ones in line. Now the line is long. I took my food back to my desk and ate it awhile ago. I finished my @bovehealth turnover. I started on another project value options adding and index. This is due tomorrow. The @bovehealth change to remove error records was due today. I have two projects due Monday and Monday is the day of my Pfizer physical, no food from 8AM to noon. R finished this week's parsha in Hebrew in the car today.

a touch of joy

I found out I have the job for next semester. This is good news. I will be teaching two nights a week a total of 6 credits. Same load as this semester. No need to work in the gas station. I still have a physical schedule for Pfizer on Monday. My friend over there called this morning and left a message he can't go. Its ok I am going with Melissa. She even made it a date, an official outlook calendar meeting. I have my cafe maria coupon here. S and I argued about it last night. I said I was entitled to go out. If she had her way I would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner here. I sometimes feel like a slave. I spent a few minutes last night celebrating, by getting gas after class. Then I went and flirted with the cashier. At first she was scared then she didn't seem to have any fear. Maybe resolved whatever happens happens. Its kinda fun talking to someone and hearing about their lives. Kinda like reading a blog I supposed. She remembered me from the weekend when R and I came in after her basketball game. R read me some of the parsha again on the way to school. It is really miserable outside today. I was so sick diarha yesterday. I felt I could only eat the rice of my dinner. So R wanted me to eat the rest for lunch today. I conveinently forgot it at home. I think its the coffee. Or it could be the dysentary from the camel pack. The water I drank while riding my bike. Melissa is going to Florida and I want to hear her story of her latest adventure. Also to fight back my tears, she is really leaving. We have worked together so closely this year. It was the almighty's whim I would meet her and the almighty's whim she goes. The book on tape is progressing nicely. The book is almost finished. In world news in Jordan the King's counselors quit. I suspect he will be killed by the militia and those counselors will take his place. They avoid the bloodshed by being out of the office for a few days. How would it seem if half of our president's cabinet quit all on the same day.

Stomach ache

My stomach is killing me today. I got an email from a reader of this blog. He is promoting his website. I think it is very good, here is the link.

Hi !

This week I launched a new website called:T
he Bible Quizhttp://www.bible-quiz.co.il

The, free, online Bible Quiz contains more than 3,000 multiple choice questions about the 5 books of Moses.Choose a chapter and timer setting, then the fun begins. The quiz, randomly, selects questions from its database, thus no two quizes are alike. There is, also, a database browser for reviewing and printing the Questions with the correct Answers. Adults, as well as children will find the quiz entertaining and very educational.

Feedback is welcome.

Please consider informing your readers of this neweducational site.

Thanks for the consideration.
Have a good day,
Jacob
Jacob Richman

I talked to my mother last night. She has heard of Amy Goodman too. Check out her website
http://www.democracynow.org/ She went to the David Shnear High Holiday Services in the DC area and gave her usual lecture. When I see my mother at T-day I will show her the pictures I have of me and Amy together on my cell phone.

The bike ride home was colder than I thought it would be. It still took 50 minutes to ride about 6 miles. I have to check on the gmap web page how far it really is. I also took a shortcut on the way home and got a little lost. R continued to read the parsha to me this morning on the way to school. I listened to my book on tape Thursday the Rabbi went out or something similar. My mother said her mother used to read this series. I always thought it was my Father's mother who was reading them.

Last night we had Hebrew National hotdogs for dinner. Then run out quick to take R to basketball practice. Later I talked to my Aunt Sylvia, my brother and my mother. At the practice I was reading my book Gates of Zion. There was a little kid there reading a book on ghost stories. I told him my book was scary because the Jews get killed by the mean Arabs. I know it ends in a happy ending it is still scary. Next he watched me make some pitiful shots on the basket.

I called my new friend at Pfixer. The one I met at the Friday night at our Chabad friends's house. We plan to go ot Cafe Marie's tomorrow, since I have an entertainment coupon.

Bike to Work

I rode my bike to work today. Had trouble getting a hold of very many relatives over the weekend. Talked to my brother for two minutes. Talked to my Aunt Sylvia for two minutes. Pulled up the garden. Went to a soccer game and a basketball game. Today is probably the nicest day all week so I figured I better ride to work. Aunt Sylvia was upset since Z broke and lost the locket on L's locket necklace. L was watching my old Simpons videos. My beloved S got these for me a 3 tape set. At the library I got Rabbi Small Mystery book on tape. Its 7.25 hours five tapes and its the first in the series. Will start it on the way home. R reads the Torah in the car outloud in Hebrew. And I renewed my card which expired on my birthday in 1993. Got paid $10 for a cold sore study. I don't have the right kind of cold sores. Wasted a couple of hours dealing with this on Thursday. Finished the codified benefits for @bovehealth today. Need to work on the turnover since turnover is due tomorrow. The basketball game was a blow out. They lost 34-2. I couldn't watch the second half. I was outside eating my lunch. Then I was worried about UM football traffic. We were right near the game and it was ending at the same time as the basketball game. Had fun at our Chabad friends house Friday night. I נגיד the Birkat Hamazon. I read the transliteration for about 10 pages. They were so patient since I didn't really know it. I met a person who works at Pfizer. This guy is a toxicologist. I told him all about the Pfizer study I might be in. This will be a great way to make supplemental income especially if the college teaching falls through. I am also tired of the department I am in. I fixed up my resume. It looks really nice. I cut off all my jobs before 1994. I also removed one job I had for only a few months. Then I rounded to the nearest year so there is no gap in employment. L is doing gymnastics on the weekend and ballet during the week. R had no school today. They did have day care at her school so she is there now playing with the gym teacher, who gave me a high five for biking to work. It made me late since I had to walk her into class. The book Gates of Zion is getting really exciting. Up to page 220 now. We can't print right now.

Things are looking up

I emailed my father and he emailed me right back so things are looking up now. becsuniverse.blogspot.com has a nice poem about a strawberry. We are all enranged about the situation in France. I could never write as well as her. I have too much trouble even spelling situtation.

From my Franklin:

Got navigation manual. The boss said to see about getting a logon to the new application amisys advance. Melissa said the @bovehealth file had no records. It was a major fire. Along with another major fire. S is not feeling well. No cold sores yet for me. My watch fixed itself it was the wrong time for a week. Vicki has questions about the service_form project. The contractors are talking again at 10:32. We had a long meeting. S is at Target now. So there might be a problem with service_form. There was fix I had to do for value options today. Student Opinion Surveys are this week.

I took R to basketball practice last night. It was fun I read my book Gates of Zion and watched. R said one of the girls with an inhaler was a ball hog. I asked the coach if he liked R's new sports glasses. He said they were practical. Kids are always breaking things. R chanted lecha lecha to me in the car on the way to school today. Spencer the cat peeded in L's room. Z moved into R's room a couple of months ago.

Forgotten stuff

Usually I write down in my planner what I forgot to take to work today. I forgot to take to work today these two books I want to get rid of. One is called Ordinary People. The other is Heloise Helpful Hints.

Over the weekend I managed to call my brother. I never had time to call my parents. I have nothing new to report to them. L had religious school. Z made a mess. I cleaned toys most of the weekend. R yelled and screamed whenever S told her to help. L had a sleepover with her friend M. M's brother J and R are friends. L went to a birthday party with Z and I at Chuckee Cheese. And also R had a soccer game and basketball game the same day as the party. We had our medical students over for dinner. We spent time making the house look nice for them as well.

I have made some progress on my book The Gates of Zion. Up to page 100. It is similar to the movie Exodus. I was just going to start reading Isaha and this book talks about it. Its a twist on the dead sea scrolls. And the scroll she finds is Isaha. Here at work things are going well. Projects are easy and being completed successfully and ahead of schedule. I spend most of the day preparing paper work. We call a finished project a turnover. I explain usually it is similar to a closing for a mortgage. I emailed the college again about teaching in the Winter of 06. No news yet.

Usually I take notes of what S tells me when she calls so I can pay better attention to her. She calls about 5-7 times per day. She told me there was a big tie up on 23. She asked me if I got R to school successfully. And she told me no one answered the phone at Pfizer. This is a big drug company and they do experiments. She told me one other experiment she called about is only for women. She told me I could wear pish's tights. You see Z is somewhat a cross dresser and pish is his nickname. S is just too funny. We have been having a real problem getting the kids to listen to us and do as they are told.

My student taught the class last night. Then she complained she didn't have the homework finished and it was due last night. I a going to have to email her about the homework. I didn't think it was a good use of time staying from 10-11 after class and writing the homework for her. So we'll have to wait and see what's what. Today I dropped R off and school and left my car there. I put my bike on a rack since its sooo nice out. I was a little winded after 2 miles and had another 4 to go. I will have to check with that program for sure the exact mileage. I went streets. Mapquest wouldn't go those streets and I normally wouldn't drive those streets. For one reason to start with there is construction on Huron River Driver. I went on the construction and the construction workers told me "don't be here." Right now I am looking around for some part-time work since I am worried the teaching at the community college is not working out so well anymore. I will know more about the school later. Next week is SOQ's and registration for Winter starts. The introduction to computer science class I taught two semesters in a row is offered again. I asked for it three times and never got a response. So it was given to another instructor who is teaching it now. I am in a cold sore study. This sounds promising. I finished The Day The Rabbi Resigned. I found 9 more of those books on www.ebay.com for a very reasonable price.

Things are pretty bleak

Things here are pretty bleak. I know its enough to count my blessings. So here goes. I don't have to listen to the parsha on the internet at http://bible.ort.org/books/cald5.asp anymore. This is a real player link. The reason is R reads it to me in the car on the way to school.

My problem today is with my wife. She doesn't talk very nice to me and it hurts my feelings. I read Rabbi Biggs today and it didn't cheer me up too much. I am almost finished with the Day the Rabbi Resigned it is a murder mystery and has many Jewish references in it. I have my next book picked out. It is called The Gates of Zion. Also a Jewish book also I bought it like the other one about 12 years ago and never read it.

I plan to enter a cold sore study. It is here in Ann Arbor. And it sounds really cool. I get cold sores quite often. As soon as I get one they want to take a culture of it. They will pay me for this of course.

Diwali Day

Z's appointment went well. We had our medical student with us. I just finished putting pages into my Franklin planner. Then I usually read the old entries from a year ago. On Nov 11, 2004, S bought R a book about sex. This entry caught my eye. Back to the appointment. I had to eat my lunch while the doctor was examining Z. Z seems pretty happy even though his spine is curved 13 degrees since June 17, 2003. Unbelievabley to me this is the first we have heard of this on August 5 on his last chest x-ray. It seems he wanted to stand like a man on that day. Speaking of standing like a man, I had to get measured too. It seems I shrunk another inch and am now 63 7/8" in height. I was once 5' 5 and 3/4" tall. So where does that leave me with my ideal weight. Mathematically it means lose more weight. I have found a new formula called the BMI - body mass index. Here is the formula, take 25 times your height in inches squared and divide by the number 703. This comes to 143 for me assuming I want to get to 24.5 times 64". I know this all sounds very complicated. Last night I was working on rotateing my clothing. It is an endless job, especially with an uncoopertative closet space. My wife stores everything where she can and it gets spread out all over the place. I have 8 long sleeve rugby shirts, maybe 9, I think one is in the wash. Today I am back to a short sleeve rugby shirt. Last night I was studying networks, chapter 10 of windows operating system. Check out www.scsite.com/winxp/exs.htm it is chock full of self learning and this is what I was doing, instead of watching monday night football. I am past chapter 29 of Mirror Image. I left it here over the weekend. The other book Rabbi Resigned is not so good either. It is getting to the good part. I gave the secretary at R's school the Danielle Steele book Wings this morning. I just carry it around so it can go to a rightful owner. It is her birthday and I had to sign up for conferences at the school. Normally I just drop off. We are celebrating diwali day here at work. Tonight I give back the C++ tests. I feel bad about eating my lunch and not eating their food. They have a beautiful spread set up. Tom was nice enough to go to Busch's and get me an apple since one of my apples was rotten. I talked to R briefly in the parking lot on my cell phone while I waited for Tom to show up with the apple. We are making Thanksgiving plans. It is always so stressful. I am going to my parents and she and the kids are going to hers. My parents want them to come over for a day and she said she won't drive there. So what am I to tell my parents. I have dreaded asking her for a week now. This is what has caused all my stress.
